UVAFlex® FCM Y81 — The new ink generation

The Zeller+Gmelin UVAFlex® FCM Y81 technology is based on a new generation of multifunctional raw materials and polymeric groups which are different to all existing UV printing ink systems.

With this new technology we were able to significantly reduce the migration potential compared to all other UV ink systems which are currently on the market. This results in high security for packaging manufacturers for the food-, cosmetics- or consumer industry. The UVAFlex® FCM Y81 ink series fulfills or outperforms all current legal requirements and should be the future benchmark in the market.

Why do we call our UV Inks UVAFlex® FCM?

Everybody is talking about migration… We do not, because with our new technology we can avoid migration so comprehensively that we are talking about FCM UV inks. FCM means that the printing inks – but also other products such as adhesives or lacquers – are suitable for food contact materials.

This is also the EuPIA definition. Therefore we have adapted our naming so that each customer knows that our products meet these standards as there are worldwide different standards.

Caution: By definition the ink may not come into direct contact with food!

Difference between standard uv and Zeller+Gmelin FCM technology

UV Standard

What our customers say…

We tested the new UVAFlex® FCM Y81 ink series in a comprehensive and stringent field test phase at international customers and partners.

We received ample and positive feedback with regard to:

  • High reactivity
  • High colour density
  • Very good print performance and printing results
  • Easy handling of ink
93% positive feedback

Ink density

In comparison to our predecessor ink series Y71 we increased the ink density of our new UVAFlex® FCM Y81 ink series significantly!

  • Process Yellow: + 20 %
  • Process Magenta: + 5 %
  • Process Cyan: + 13 %
  • Process Black: + 5 %

Also in comparison to our main competitors the density of the UVAFlex® FCM Y81 process inks is comparable or higher!

Curing

Due to its new technology the UVAFlex® FCM Y81 ink series showed outstanding curing properties and very low energy input during the field test phase.

The new FCM-technology of Zeller+Gmelin not only makes the ink series very secure but also economically interesting!

Viscosity

Viscosity was another important point during the field test phase. The ink series showed a low and stable viscosity with excellent flow properties which significantly reduces the risk of ink spitting.

Advantages of monopigmented ink mixing systems

On the basis of many years experience using monopigmented ink mixing systems we offer also for the UVAFlex® FCM Y81 ink series a system of monopigmented base inks for mixing.

  • PANTONE® shades are easier to match
  • Ink mixes have a higher colour strength and are purer, because only the necessary pigments are used for the mixture
  • The higher colour-intensity makes printing with reduced ink lay-down possible
  • Reduced dot gain in halftone printing
  • More flexibility when adjusting colour strength for special shades
  • Less colour deviations between reference sample and mixed ink under changing light sources (metamerism)
  • Reduction of stock expenses
  • Lower disposal charges by elimination of leftover inks

Advanced Colour-Mix-Solution

Together with our cooperation partner we offer a comprehensive system service around the topic of ink mixing.

The complete system can be individually customized to customer demands and grants a high colour- and mixing quality and at the same time a high cost efficiency.

The basis is our individually adjustable monopigmented Z-base-ink mixing system.

The system has the following components:

  • 9 base inks
  • 1 transparent white
  • 1 opaque white
  • Ink dispenser
  • 25 kg hobbock containers
  • Colour formulation software
  • Spectral photometer

This system enables you to simply and exactly mix spot inks:

  • PMS Pantone mixed shades
  • HKS colours
  • RAL colours
  • Any corporate or brand colours

Further advantages:

  • Traceability according to article 17 of regulation EC 1935/2004
  • High production safety through reproducible mixing recipes
  • High efficiency due to container savings
  • Simple handling
  • Efficient use of leftover inks
  • Individual configuration adapted to your space situation
